The CLC sends out periodic newsflashes to keep our membership
informed of CLC activities and composer opportunities. We currently
send out materials in the language in which it is received; our
intention in the future, once we have sufficient resources, is to send
out messages in both official languages.

1) Memorial University School of Music - Position Posting
Memorial
University is home to Atlantic Canada’s largest and most comprehensive
school of music. Offering B. Mus. programs in performance, music
education (conjoint B.Mus/B.Mus.Ed.), music history/literature and
music theory/composition to 165 undergraduate students, the School also
has graduate programs in performance, performance/pedagogy and
conducting (M.Mus), and in ethnomusicology (M.A./Ph.D.). The School’s
faculty of 23 performers and scholars enjoy national and international
reputations in their fields and are active partners in the community’s
vibrant cultural life.
The School of Music seeks to fill the following position for September
2009:
A full-time tenure-track appointment in composition and theory at the
rank of Assistant Professor, subject to budgetary approval. Teaching
duties will include undergraduate and graduate courses in composition
and theory. All areas of expertise will be considered, although the
ability to develop programs in one or more of the following areas would
be considered an asset: new media or electronic music; jazz or popular
music theory. Qualifications include a doctorate, demonstrated
excellence as a composer and/or scholar, and successful teaching
experience. Applications should include 3 to 5 examples of recent
compositions or scholarly work.
Memorial University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. As
the province's only university, Memorial plays an integral role in the
education and cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador. Offering

Salary for this position is dependent on qualifications and experience
in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement. In addition

2) Vancouver Chamber Choir Young Composers' Competition
Entry deadline: February 27, 2009
The Vancouver Chamber Choir and Conductor Jon Washburn are pleased to
offer young composers (ages 8-22) the opportunity to compose for
Canada's premiere choir, have their composition performed in the choir
concert series, and receive a cash award!
The competition is open to young composers from any country. Entries
will be judged in three age categories with special awards for the best
submissions by BC residents. Entries will be assessed on originality,
craftsmanship of the music and, where appropriate, the words. Finalist
compositions will be performed at the Vancouver Chamber Choir concert
Youth & Music on Friday, May 1, 2009 at Ryerson United Church in
Vancouver, BC.
