The CLC sends out periodic newsflashes to keep our membership
informed of CLC activities and composer opportunities. We currently
send out materials in the language in which it is received; our
intention in the future, once we have sufficient resources, is to send
out messages in both official languages.

The Canadian League of Composers and soundaXis '08 present
3 free activities for composers and the public

Mark your calendars
- May 29th and June 7th
WORKSHOP
FOR COMPOSERS AND CELLO ENTHUSIASTS
May 29, 2008 -
1:00 p.m.
Free Admission
Faculty of Music, U of T, Edward Johnson
Building, room 330
80 Queens Park, Toronto
The virtuoso cellist Frances-Marie Uitti will conduct a workshop on
contemporary cello technique. Uitti is a composer / performer who has
pioneered a revolutionary dimension to the cello by transforming it for
the first time into a polyphonic instrument capable of sustained
chordal (two, three and four-part) and intricate multivoiced writing.
Using two bows in one hand, this invention permits contemporaneous
cross accents, multiple timbres, contrasting 4-voiced dynamics,
simultaneous legato / articulated playing, that her previous work with
a curved bow couldn't attain. Uitti is the dedicatee of many works for
cello. She contributed a chapter on "The Frontiers of Technique" in The
Cambridge Companion to the Cello in which she traces the development of
cello techniques through the Darmstat experimental era covering the
uses of different bows and preparations, new repertoire, percussives,
use of voice and new uses of both hands.
