NAC Composers Programme
Canada’s National Arts Centre (NAC) Summer Music Institute 2008 in Ottawa, under the leadership of Music Director Maestro Pinchas Zukerman and Director Gary Kulesha, is accepting applications for the NAC 6th Annual Composers Programme with a deadline date of December 10, 2007.
Five talented emerging, professional composers will be selected by application to participate in an intense programme of study this summer at the NAC for 8 days from June 19 – 26, 2008. The fee for the programme is $1500 (CDN). Canadian composers will receive full financial support. International composers will receive partial financial support and be required to pay only $500 (CDN). Auditors are also welcome by approved audition. ($200 fee). Participants will be required to write, in advance of the programme, a new work of 7 – 10 minutes in length for a professional ensemble of up to 12 parts. (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, 2 violins, viola, cello, bass, piano & percussion.) Each composition will be workshopped in several sessions with a dedicated ensemble from l’Orchestre de la francophonie canadienne, led by its Music Director and Conductor Jean Philippe Tremblay.
Works by Kulesha and the composers will be presented in a public concert as the culmination of the programme. Participants will take part in several informal discussions and information sessions during the 9-day programme.

Application Requirements
Deadline: Monday, December 10, 2007
The Composers Programme is designed for those at a graduate level of study or higher or who have equivalent experience and are preparing for a professional career in composition. The programme is ideally for those 35 years of age and under. Exceptions may apply.
Applicants must send a DATA CD containing the following:
1. mp3 files of 3 sample compositions written within the past two years showing a variety of skill and abilities.
2. Scores of each composition (PDF files acceptable) with a brief description of the pieces. Hard copies of scores may be sent by post if necessary.
3. A recent resumé and photo of the applicant included on the Data CD or sent by email to the Composers email address of cmp@nac-cna.ca . Résumés should be attached as an MS Word or plain text document (.doc or .txt). Photos (.jpeg) should not be more than 200k file size.
In addition to:
4. A $50 CDN non-refundable application fee.
DATA CDs must be labelled with: name of applicant, “NAC Composers Programme 2008”, date of recording(s), list of repertoire titles and other information to clearly identify the content of the data CD.
Application Process
1. Complete the required on-line application and submit by the deadline date of Monday, December 10, 2007.
2. Forward the required application materials to be received by the NAC no later than Monday, December 10, 2007. All applicants are strongly urged to use a courier service including brokerage services to ensure a timely delivery and efficient customs clearance for those applying from outside Canada. Recordings & scores sent to complete an application not received by the NAC by the deadline risk having their application forfeited. Applications will not be processed until all materials including recording, resumé and $50 CDN non-refundable application fee, have been received. (See below for details)
3. The main form of communication for this programme is by email. Applicants and those accepted to the Composers Programme are advised to have an email address. It is the responsibility of the applicant / participant to check email on a regular basis for communications.
4. $50 CDN non-refundable application fee payable by cheque (made out to National Arts Centre), Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or International Money Order. The NAC does not guarantee a secure site. Those wishing to pay by credit card may include credit card information in their application package. Applications will not be processed without receipt by the NAC of the application fee.

Programme des compositeurs du CNA
Le Centre National des Arts (CNA) du Canada a le plaisir de vous annoncer son institut estival de musique pour les musiciens et des compositeurs de l’année 2008. Gary Kulesha, compositeur lauréat du CNA, revient diriger la sixième édition annuelle du Programme des compositeurs, du 19 au 26 juin 2008 à Ottawa.
Date limite pour poser sa candidature: le 10 décembre 2007.
Cinq compositeurs professionnels de la relève seront sélectionnés parmi les candidatures reçues pour participer à un programme de formation intensive de 8 jours au CNA, du 19 au 26 juin 2008. Les candidats retenus devront écrire, en prévision du programme, une nouvelle pièce d’une durée de sept à dix minutes, pour un ensemble professionnel composé d’au plus douze sections (flûte, hautbois, clarinette, basson, cor, 2 violons, alto, violoncelle, contrebasse, piano et percussion).
Chaque composition sera travaillée en atelier dans le cadre de plusieurs séances mettant à contribution un ensemble de musiciens membres de l’Orchestre de la francophonie canadienne, sous la conduite de son directeur musical et chef d’orchestre attitré Jean-Philippe Tremblay.
Des œuvres de Gary Kulesha, d’un compositeur invité et des compositeurs participants seront présentées à l’occasion d’un concert public à la fin du programme. Les participants prendront aussi part à plusieurs échanges et séances d’information durant les huit jours du programme.
Frais (en dollars canadiens) : Compositeur participant – 1 500 $ (couvre les frais de formation, le logement et les repas). Appui financier complet pour les participants canadiens. Aide partielle pour les participants étrangers, qui doivent payer 500 $. Auditeur libre : 200 $ (couvre uniquement les frais de formation). Les frais de voyage, le logement et les repas sont à la charge du participant.

Exigences relatives à la présentation des candidatures

Le Programme des compositeurs s’adresse aux étudiants en musique de deuxième cycle universitaire ou plus – ou aux musiciens dotés d’une expérience équivalente – qui se destinent à une carrière en composition musicale. Le programme est réservé aux trente-cinq ans et moins; toutefois, certaines exceptions sont possibles.
Les candidats doivent joindre à leur demande un CD de DONNÉES contenant les fichiers suivants :
1. les fichiers mp3 de trois exemples de compositions écrites au cours des deux dernières années, témoignant d’un éventail de talents et d’habiletés;
2. les partitions de chacune des compositions présentées (format PDF accepté) assorties d’une brève description de chaque pièce – des versions papier des partitions peuvent être expédiées par la poste au besoin;
3. un curriculum vitae à jour avec photo du candidat ou de la candidate, inclus dans le CD de données ou expédié par courriel à l’adresse du Programme des jeunes compositeurs : cmp@nac-cna.ca . Les CV expédiés par courriel doivent être envoyés en pièces jointes de format MS Word ou texte (.doc or .txt). Le volume des fichiers photos (.jpeg) ne doit pas dépasser 200k.
Les candidats doivent aussi joindre à leur demande :
4. des frais d’ouverture de dossier non remboursables de 50 $ CDN.
Les CD de données doivent être munis d’étiquettes indiquant le nom du candidat ou de la candidate, la mention « Programme des jeunes compositeurs du CNA 2007 », les dates des enregistrements figurant sur le CD, les titres des pièces et toute autre information utile pour identifier clairement le contenu du CD de données.
Présentation des candidatures

Nous encourageons vivement tous les candidats à utiliser un service de messagerie, se chargeant notamment des opérations de courtage à la frontière s’il y a lieu, afin d’assurer une livraison efficace, en particulier pour les candidatures provenant de l’extérieur du Canada. Veuillez prendre note que les enregistrements et partitions qui n’auront pas été reçus à la date limite du dépôt des candidatures au CNA risquent fort de n’être pas pris en compte. L’examen des candidatures ne pourra se faire qu’après réception de tous les documents requis, y compris les enregistrements musicaux, le CV et les frais d’ouverture de dossier non remboursables de 50 $ CDN. 3. Le courriel est la principale forme de communication dans le cadre de ce programme. Il est conseillé aux candidats et aux auditeurs acceptés au Programme des compositeurs de disposer d’une adresse électronique. Il incombera à chaque candidat(e)/participant(e) de vérifier régulièrement son courriel afin de relever les messages.
4. Les frais de dossier non remboursables de 50 $ CDN payables par chèque (à l’ordre du Centre national des Arts), par carte de crédit Visa, Mastercard ou American Express, ou par mandat international. Le CNA ne peut garantir la sécurité de ce site. Les personnes qui souhaitent payer par carte de crédit peuvent indiquer les informations pertinentes dans l’envoi de leur matériel d’audition. The University of Illinois School of Music presents 2008 Martirano Award
Eligibility: Any composer, regardless of age or nationality.
Awards: First Prize cash award of $1000 and second prize cash award of $500
plus performances by the University of Illinois New Music Ensemble in the fall of
2008 at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Additional awards and
performances may be given at the discretion of the judges.
Judges: A panel of judges consisting of University of Illinois music composition
faculty members will select the winning compositions. The winning composers
are expected to attend the award concert/reception and will be responsible for
their transportation costs (the competition will provide a stipend for lodging).
The winning composers will assume full responsibility for providing adequate
performance materials upon request.
Guidelines:
1. Medium: Full scores of any style or aesthetic direction for one to fifteen
performers (including vocalists) may be submitted. Works for tape, electronics
and/or mixed media with or without instruments/voices are eligible.
2. Duration: 20 minutes maximum
3. Limit: One entry per composer
4. Entry fee: A non-refundable entry fee of fifteen U.S. dollars ($15.00) in the
form of a check must be included with each submission. All checks must be
payable to the University of Illinois, and must be an international money order
or drawn on a U.S. bank.
5. Anonymous Submission: The composer's name must not appear on the score
itself or on any item (tape, CD, etc.) submitted in supplement to the application.
A sealed envelope must accompany the score and contain the composer's name,
address, telephone number/e-mail (if applicable) and a brief biographical
sketch. If a recording of the work is available, it should accompany the score
and be identified only by the title of the composition.
6. Return of Materials: Scores will not be returned unless a self-addressed,
stamped envelope of the proper size is enclosed.

Anthology of 20th century violin concertos

my name is Tobias Broeker and I am working on an Anthology of Violin
concertos from the 20th century (spanning the time from 1894 to 2006).
This Anthology contains recordings of works for (at least) solo violin
and any kind of orchestral ensemble. After 10 years of gathering I
