PROFESSIONAL COMPOSER
Workshop to be held in Toronto on September 15th
The end of summer has drawn near, leaving us memories of dock
sitting, patio dining and campfire singing. Now we can look forward to
September's joys: good baseball and education! This is a reminder that
the CLC will be hosting a professional development workshop, Grant
Writing for the Professional Composer, on Saturday September 15th in
conjunction with the X-Avant Festival at the Music Gallery in Toronto.
Michael Jones, one of Canada's pre-eminent arts administrators, will
lead the workshop. The workshop is open to both emerging and
established composers.

2) Le Concours Mozart de La Sinfonia de
Lanaudière
Suite à l'important succès de la première
édition du 'Concours Mozart' alors que plus de 60 musiciens
étaient au rendez-vous, l'orchestre La Sinfonia de
Lanaudière et son chef Monsieur Stéphane Laforest relance
la deuxième édition qui aura lieu les 17 et 18 novembre
2007 dans la salle E de la Place des Arts de Montréal. En plus
des deux catégories jeunes musiciens, cette édition 2007
sera marquée par l'ajout de la nouvelle catégorie 'Jeune
compositeur' qui se retrouve rarement dans les concours
québécois.

3) Interplay
Composer's Workshop
Designed for professional and/or student composers to workshop
their in-progress (or recently completed) choral works and ideas with
Jon Washburn and the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Those who do not have
current pieces to workshop may still attend as observers. There are no
charges for composers or observers. Application deadline is February 1,
2008. The workshops will be held in Vancouver on April 9, 2008.
The proposed deadline may be subject to minor changes. Please refer to

4) Vancouver Bach Choir:
National New Works for Large Choirs Competition
The Vancouver Bach Choir intends to add to the Canadian
repertoire of works for large symphonic choirs by sponsoring a national
competition, New Works for Large
Choirs. Six works will be chosen for the final round of the
competition which will take place at the end of May 2008. The three
winners will be chosen at this event and the top two winning pieces
will receive a second performance at a VBC concert of a later date.
Criteria
– the piece should be between 5 and 12 minutes in length
– the text must be in the public domain
– scoring for SATB or double choir (SATB:SATB)
– four copies of the score must be presented in printed format
(Sibelius, Finale, etc.)
which will become the property of the Vancouver Bach
Choir
– the piece should be a capella (with piano reduction) or
accompanied by piano
– the piece should not have been previously performed
– the last date for submissions is December 31st, 2007
Preliminary adjudication will be made by the Vancouver Bach
Choir’s Music Director, Bruce Pullan. Three judges, prominent in the
choral community will choose the winners at the final concert.
Composer Information
Composers must include a biography and information about
citizenship. Only Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents are
eligible.
