CLC MEMBERSHIP
CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA
June 2007
1. Professional Membership (voting)
$60 annually
For professional composers of concert music and sound art.
Conditions:
- The composer will have received at least 3 professionally-presented public performances, each by a different performer, ensemble and/or organization.
- For those under 35 years of age, a prize in a composition competition recognized by the CLC Executive Council may replace 1 of the 3 required performances.
- Composers who are Associates of the Canadian Music Centre are not required to submit support materials.
2. Student Membership (non-voting)
$20 annually
For students preparing for a career in composition.
Conditions:
- Eligibility ends 2 years after completion of study, at which time composers are encouraged to apply for professional membership.
- Expected date for completion of studies should be indicated.
- Verification of student status may be requested.
3. Emeritus Membership (voting)
$0 annually
- Category A. For individuals recognized by the CLC for their outstanding contribution to Canadian music creation.
- Category B. For composers aged 65 and over who have had a Professional Membership for a minimum of 5 years.
4. Affiliate Membership (non-voting)
$20 annually
For individuals or organizations who support the aims and activities of the CLC and wish to be kept informed of CLC and ISCM activities.
Conditions: none
REQUIRED SUPPORT MATERIAL FOR PROFESSIONAL APPLICATIONS
- Current Curriculum Vitae, including year of birth.
- Please list all compositions with instrumentation, timings and, where applicable, performance information.
- Documentation of 3 professionally-presented public performances, each by 3 different performers, ensembles and/or organizations. A prize in a composition competition recognized by the CLC Executive Council may replace 1 of the 3 required performances for composers aged 35 and under.
- Scores and recordings are not required.
- Composers who are Associate Composers of the Canadian Music Centre need not submit documentation other than contact information and year of birth.
Successful applicants will receive in their welcome package:
- A letter of welcome from the President which includes the CLC's mission statement, aims and purpose.
- A list of Executive Council members, highlighting the new composer's regional representative
- The CLC commissioning rates
- Promotional recordings of the Canadian section of ISCM
- Electronic CLC Newsflashes re: upcoming events, competitions, opportunities etc.
- Links to CLC website including President’s report, model contracts, advice for commissioning, commissioning rates etc.
